As a class we have put a tree into the local church Christmas Tree festival
a few times. This year we thought we've shown the same lace decorations
several times and most of us being less speedy don't have time to make
enough new decorations for this year so we had a think. We have decided to
have a lace tools tree. I have over the years been given lace equipment from
'retiring' or dead lace makers - the pillows, bobbins etc, as local people
know I can pass them onto new lacemakers. So I had a look through what I had
and there was a pack of unused, unspangled plain bobbins (10) which we can
decorate one night in class. I also found that one lacemaker must have
collected a bobbin each Christmas as there are 9 Christmas bobbins. Ideal! I
have lengths of ivy from my daughters wedding cake which can wrap round the
tree. We have sundry bags of beads to make up spangles which can hang as
separate decorations and reading on the list about tying bobbins on made me
think about the ends of thread! Now I have a use for those too with their
lovely kinks! It's all coming together! Now all I need is to find the box of
lights! It's only a small black fake tree but it looks pretty all done up.
The best thing is that as the bobbins do not 'belong' to any of us we won't
be too upset if any disappear!

Have any of you got plans for a tree at Christmas involving your lace?
