Hi all:

I've only done an introductory course in wire lace and made two short
bracelets, and so I only have a few thoughts to share:

First, and most important - you can't undo it. So if you make a mistake or your
tension isn't very good - once you've kinked that wire you've kinked it and it
isn't going straight again. If you twist or bend the wire repeatedly, it can
easily break. So, even though the guipure laces that work well in wire are
worked in simple stitches, a beginner might find the lace frustrating.

On the other hand, leaves are easier to work because accidentally pulling the
workers won't cause a disaster.

Your work will also stay where you put it, so you can do, for example, a
Bedfordshire 9-pin edge and it won't collapse in on itself or become twisted or
misshapen.

Generally the very easy guipure/Cluny/Bedfordshire laces are where I would look
for patterns to try. The wire also doesn't pack as well as thread does, so you
may have to make the pattern bigger, to use wire, than you would make it if you
were using thread of the same thickness.

Hope this helps.
