Regarding my question about removing fold lines from a Carrickmacross lace
handkerchief, thanks to all who responded and I will reply to each of you
individually.  I will start by dabbing a **very** short length of the fold
with distilled water and see how that works.  Adele, special thanks for your
detailed suggestion to use the weight of some books, and a dampened towel to
help with the task.  I expect this is what I will end up doing, and I will let
you know how it works.

Someone suggested that handkerchiefs are made to be washed, and while that is
generally true, I assure you these ones are not.  In fact, I am now wondering
if they are not handkerchiefs, but were intended as a doily to decorate a
tabletop.  If anyone put their runny nose close to this exquisite lace, or
wiped their sweaty forehead with it, I would not want to be held responsible
for my response!
