Subject: [lace] Gender with lace and the Chateaux
Isn't it funny how we think of lace as a mainly female pursuit?
I have been very interested in the Lacemakers of Calais who from several
articles I have found on the internet show that they were men who used
lace making machines.
Personally I love to find more information on the history of the crafts.
Men did knitting, spinning and weaving. I can not imagine they did not
work in lace also.
The Chateaux lace pieces are just amazing. I have been looking at them
every day and never fail to find something else that I had missed
previously.
I do have a question - how many of us do more than one form of lace? I
personally have done some tatting with a bobbin, knitted lace and bobbin
lace. I am still learning the needle lace and other forms.
I just wonder how many of us do more than one form.
