"First, using the Panix address to Arachne means your letter may get lost in ether instead of going to our archives, so someone looking for it in near future may not find it! However, this reply will make it through, so your request is covered because most of your words have been kept - below my memo."
Unfortunately, the Panix address is what comes up when I hit "reply", and I'm working off my cell phone, which makes looking things up a little more difficult than usual :) Thus my inability to search the Arachne archives too. Thank you Jeri; I confess you were one of the people who I thought might have the information I needed :D I will be reading your reply more thoroughly in just a moment. The international nature of this list is the other reason I asked - knowing that there are Greek lace makers, I have hope they may have more information on their history. I didn't specify as I didn't think it was relevant, but as it turns out I am currently in Kalamazoo at the Medieval Congress, sitting in a publisher's booth just opposite the publisher who is displaying those particular books ( I didn't see the bobbin lace one until today, but he does have both). In paging through the book, I came on this information that confused me, as I could find no corroborating evidence in my memory or in a quick (cell phone) search of the internet. I would consider buying the books if there was a good cause, such as to add to the history of the lace I make, but I need more background on either the research or the author before I make that commitment - there isn't anything new to me in the technique. I actually find it quite fascinating that they are displaying books from comparatively long ago - I had no idea they were from 1989/1990 until I went back and looked at the website I linked in my first message! Well, I have two more days at this conference. I may yet purchase the books, if only because I enjoy having many perspectives on our often cloudy lace history, and to have many resources to point people towards. Thanks!
