One question:
Will ever message containing @NICK considered a reply?
If I dent @evan with a URL for some news, it shouldnt be related to a previous
dent.
We will need to distinguish between what is an ongoing conversation and what is
a new thread, if both contain @NICK.
On some µblogs that is visually easy, but with our current system, I dont see
how we can do that. Via Web (and API clients like Gwibber) using the arrows is
easy to build the thread (and even sub-threads even?), but other systems (XMPP,
SMS,email) cant/shouldnt just build threads based on dents containing @NICK (or
we will end up on the same bug that exists on Jaiku).
Unless, we could setup a way to reply to threads instead of reply to user, but
it will add extra complexly to the system.
Opened to ideas.

You forgot one: Char limit.
I know many think that µblogs should FORCE a limit. Me and several others
believe there should be none, or at least much more relaxed.
Personally I would love to see we follow Jaiku model: char limit for the OP (or
is it OD Original Dent) and then a rather large limit or "no limit" for
replies... Again, configurable so any one could set any of this limits on there
own install.
I know this would again cause trouble in the Federation but as I mention in
[1], we could list that limit in the API/header/laconicaDB, and generate
shortlinks if the dent doesn't fit on the destination system.

Finally, *Privacy*!

I really like a FoF (Friend of friend or Web of Friends) model.
ALL privacy options should be created with that in mind. My idea is that any
user should be able to limit or open access to other users based on scalable
schema, some kind of sliding bar, that would range from NO ONE to PUBLIC.
