I think this is a good idea, but I agree with Evan.. this is going to be
time and energy consuming.

Rather than this, I would say to who has a personal laconi.ca instance
linked to identi.ca (and is willing to do so) to patch their installations
with the experimental features, and send feedback to the mailing-list.
At this stage any kind of feedback is useful:
how the code perform
if the interface is user-friendly enough
if the feature has been appreciated by the users
if it's consuming less CPU and I/O
if it's "cool" or not
AND brings value to the end user


As a final note, we don't want to run experimental code on the production
DB... restoring from a backup is slow and painful.
