For the web based installer why re-invent the wheel? Joomala has a very
modular installer that could be plugged in here (i know, i've done it
before for other php projects :)
I haven't looked at it. The Web-based installer I checked in is really,
really simple, and I'm hesitant to use a complex installation framework.
But I'll take a look at Joomla's.
Do many other php projects have rpm based installers?
I don't know about "many", but there are RPMs for MediaWiki and
WordPress. Those are the ones that Ken & co. used as models for the
Laconica RPM.
This begs the question where's .deb or .mydistro installers?
I started a project on alioth.debian.org for the Debian installer. It's
a big priority, but we haven't got a lot of traction on it.
Getting installers for lots of platforms is important. I think also
getting into ISP maintenance panels like Plesk and CPanel would be good,
too.
I've only been working with laconica for a few days but I think a great
next step would be to have a bugfest or similar where the main devs and
others try to squash as many open bugs in trac as they can in one day
(i'd be willing to help :)
Gee, you mean, some kind of hackfest...? GREAT IDEA!
Seriously, this was a very successful event, and I'd like to do another
very soon -- probably around the time of the 0.8.x release. It may make
sense to have in-person meetings in some cities (like Berlin, Montreal,
and Berkeley) and other folks join in by IRC.
