Yes Fil,
Exactly my point, although I hadn't though about using groups to
accomplish the (financial) symbol management, it works well.
I guess the simplest solution would be to add the '$' or '$$' marker
to the groups functionality (which would emulate stocktwits and allow
sharing of this information to stocktwits via twitter). But one other
issue with using the groups is that groups requires lower case
extension rendering $$GOOG useless, while $$goog would work, which is
not intuitive. Since this is another change to the groups
functionality, which would only benefit this application of
laconi.ca, it would probably mean me writing a plugin to do what's
needed.
Any thoughts would be appreciated before I start swimming in code.
Kind regards
Paul

Laconi.ca's groups function is a perfect way to deal with what
you're trying
to emulate, I think - you'd create groups for the topic areas (in
your case
stock symbols?), and then people can choose to join that 'group'
and 'mark'
relevant messages by including !groupname in their message.
I agree that the "company info" can be a "group" in the internal
laconica structure, but I think Paul's question was about using the
"$" as a marker, when the group marker on laconica is only the "!".
