we are interested in the IMAP Module to not only manage the LDAP
Accounts but also the Cyrus IMAP accounts. Therefore i have installed
3.3.0-RC1 and configured it with access to Cyrus. What i don't
understand is why the IMAP management insist on a domain part and look
for Cyrus users derived from the mailadress in LDAP and not from the
uid? Our Cryus users don't have any maildomain or mailadress related
part but are purly uids.
Is it possible to configure the IMAP Module to use the LDAP uid without
domain?

what do you think about making the domain optional (and accept all
domains in this case)?

Yes, this is for sure needed. We have for example three maildomains and every login uid at the cyrus server get mail for user@all-three-domains. The mailstore doesn't care about domain part, only the MTA does.

Using the uid is surely an option. Mail addresses might be full names
while the mailbox is stored under the user name. Maybe there could be an
option in the configuration?

As said it is very common to have more the one mailadress pointing to the login uid and simply picking one of them is not always desired. I would even say that the uid is the more common choice as it is used for login anyway.

Andreas
