could be several reasons:

1. Some problem with password hashing, try hash type PLAIN in LAM server
profile to be sure
2. Account locked by PPolicy
3. The application where your user tries to login has not enough read
access to LDAP. Usually, applications search for the user name first
before authentication.

You can also try ldapsearch on commandline to test the authentication.
