I think that's the problem, because none of these three are getting set automatically on self-service account creations. In the default user profile, I have "Home directory = /home/$user" and "Create home directory" checked for 127.0.0.1 but, as you mention, the user self-service profile doesn't look at this. Does this mean that home directory auto-creation is not possible using user self-service? I'm thinking that this is probably NOT the case (since I can use pam_mkhomedir), provided I can get self-service to create proper Posix accounts...
