Eric,

Welcome to the forum! Your expert responses to our many propulsion
questions will be of great value.

I recently posed this question to the forum:

"I've come across a pickled, zero time Continental IO-550 engine. Can
this engine be affordably upgraded to a TSIO-550? In other words, could
new pistons, cylinders(?), twin turbochargers and other related
accessories be installed at a reasonable cost to achieve a reliable
engine - roughly equivalent to a zero time TSIO-550 purchased outright"?

I'd appreciate your comments as I'm considering purchasing this engine
from a friend; I want to be aware of the potential pitfalls should I
choose this route to power my Lancair 4-P. Obviously, a factory reman or
new engine would be the least risk way to power my bird, but I'm a bit
constrained by my budget. Am I dreaming of "voodoo economics" to achieve
a more affordable powerplant?

Thanks for your perspective, and again - welcome to the forum!
