I had a great e-mail session the last two days with Mr. Richard Blum of K&N.
After purchasing from them what I believe is the largest air filter which
will fit into the IV-P plenum without raising the lid, I wrote to them
asking for flow data. To my pleasant surprise Rick was very kind and
figured out what our TSIO-550 will flow at 38". That is equal to 18.67psi
or a 4lb boost as the car guys say. My trusty old Pratt & Whitney vest
pocket handbook says inches of Hg times 0.4912 yields psi.
The K&N will flow 565 cfm and our engine will produce 545 cfm. That leaves
less than 4% margin. I searched the K&N parts book for a filter to fit our
plenum tightly. The E-2865 is what I've come up with.
I hope this info is usefull, if there is a better design out there let's
have it.
