It suggests "a xml file", "a MS-DOS file", "an utf-8 file" Yet looking at Google, I see the following frequencies: "an xml file": 21,100,000 results "a xml file": 7,010,000 results "an MS-DOS file" 228,000 results "a MS-DOS file" 20,700 results "an utf-8 file" 101,000 results "a utf-8 file" 415,000 results I suppose that both "an" or "a" are OK there but I'm not 100% sure.
