Please note that this message will contain a full copy of the comment thread, including the initial issue submission, for this request, not just the latest update. Category: OpenOffice.org integration Group: 1.4 Status: Closed Resolution: Duplicate Priority: 5 Private: No Submitted By: RGB (rgb-mldc) Assigned to: Marcin MiĆkowski (milek_pl) Summary: Performance hit (freeze on startup or shortly after) Initial Comment: I noticed that starting a blank Writer document without LT installed takes less than 3 seconds on my system, while doing the same (same system, same template... everything the same) with LT 1.4 takes more than 15, almost 20 seconds before I can start typing: a factor 5-6. There is also a performance hit when a first error (like a duplicated word) is inserted, with Writer freezing for some seconds. Pondering the performance hit on normal usage is more difficult, but even if it seems to be less that during start up, it's clearly non zero. OOo/LibO is slow by itself: I think that searching a way to make LT more lightweight, not adding slowness to something already slow is really needed, specially for netbooks and other low resource devices. [Tested with OOo 3.3, LibO 3.3.3 and LibO 3.4.1 on a 64 bits Linux system] ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Daniel Naber (dnaber) Date: 2012-03-24 18:01 Message: Closing as duplicate of https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&aid=3153545 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: juanmah (juanmah) Date: 2011-11-02 01:34 Message: Arch Linux ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Daniel Naber (dnaber) Date: 2011-10-29 05:07 Message: juanmah, thanks for the information. What operating system are you using? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: juanmah (juanmah) Date: 2011-10-26 09:08 Message: languagetool 1.5 libreoffice 3.4.3 tested with jre7-openjdk 7.b147_2.0 and jre 7 It freezes 1 minute when opening and CPU goes at 100%. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Yakovru (yakovru) Date: 2011-07-11 00:49 Message: http://openoffice.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=116409 https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=32279 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Daniel Naber (dnaber) Date: 2011-07-08 08:44 Message: This might be related: https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=35944 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: RGB (rgb-mldc) Date: 2011-07-08 01:30 Message: With zemberek-ooo-1.0_rc2.oxt LibO 3.4.1 freeze for almost 20 seconds when I start typing. I installed the Sun java (I have java-1_6_0-openjdk on my openSUSE system) and changed the jvm used by OOo... but the result was the same, maybe even a bit slower. So it seems that this is a java related problem, but independent from the jvm used. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Daniel Naber (dnaber) Date: 2011-07-07 11:51 Message: Could you please de-install LanguageTool and try a different Java-based extension like http://code.google.com/p/zemberek/downloads/list, so we can find out whether the problem is specific to LanguageTool or to Java? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: RGB (rgb-mldc) Date: 2011-07-06 15:45 Message: The extension freeze LibO 3.4.1 for half a minute and then give me three error windows, all identical (screen shot of one of them following) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Daniel Naber (dnaber) Date: 2011-07-06 13:28 Message: Could you please try if http://www.languagetool.org/download/LanguageTool-english-only-test-20110706.oxt is faster? Note that it supports only English. The reason for the slowness is that the Java environment needs to be set up, but maybe we can optimize this. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- You can respond by visiting: https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&atid=655717&aid=3354798&group_id=110216 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Live Security Virtual Conference Exclusive live event will cover all the ways today's security and threat landscape has changed and how IT managers can respond.
