Here is an attempt to explain it:

On 9th July, there was a big rise in the download numbers.[1] On the 
some day, the number of Catalan users increased a lot[2], probably 
because of some kind of Catalan ads (whoever it was, thank you). Those 
downloads came from the “normal” detail page.[3] Because of the increase 
in download numbers, LanguageToolFx showed up in the category “up and 
coming” on the AMO homepage.[4] Starting from 16th July, most downloads 
have been initiated from the “up and coming” page.[3] Interestingly, the 
majority of those downloads come from Windows users.[5]
