That we'd love to see it happen, and I know several people have looked at
various options in their spare time, but no one I know of has officially
signed up to do the work.

Options include:
 - porting Casper Dik's frkit changes to the current Xorg mouse driver
 - integrating Tadpole's vuidsyn module
 - porting the recently relicensed-to-MIT Xorg synaptics driver to work
   on Solaris
 - porting the Linux evdev framework for input device handling entirely
