Your laptop uses new radeon chip not supported by the current radeon
driver. It falls back to VESA driver which has very limited
functionality, not mention RandR1.2 support.
Suggestions:
(1) You need to install the system with a later X release that
includes radeonhd driver, if currently you don't have it.
radeonhd driver is installed on /usr/X11/lib/modules/drivers.
After that, cp the included xorg.conf file to /etc/X11,
and then change the driver name to radeonhd.
(2) Tomorrow I will send you a 6.8.0 version of ati driver that
supports it to try.
