I don't encounter this before, so I think at least it is not a known bug.

Would you pls try with the wificonfig to see if it works?

#wificonfig createprofile profile_name essid=myessid encryption=wep 
wepkey1=my_key
#wificonfig -i wpi0 connect profile_name
