Does your laptop share the interrupt vector for the ipw/iwi device with any other pci device, especially one of the usb controller devices? I think this is important for reproducing the bug. For some reason, the ACPI tables in my Tecra S1 allows the use of IRQ11 only, for a *lot* of the integrated devices. So ipw is always sharing it's interrupt vector with lots of other devices. Btw. even Windows XP suffers from the boot hang problem: when I reboot from Solaris (with ipw driver) and boot into XP, XP hangs half way through the boot sequence and the laptop must be power cycled.
