Have you had any luck yet? I'm getting one of the eeePCs tomorrow and would love to get OpenSolaris booting from a USB key or SD card (yes, also USB - though I know USB booting isn't prefected yet).
FYI, under Linux, most distros other than the stock Xandros are using ndiswrapper and the Windows binary drivers for the wireless. As far as I've read, atheros and even madwifi is spotty. If anyone had made any progress, I'd be very interested. When I get around to it (and decide to spend the cash on *another* (already bought 2) 4Gb SD card or a big USB flash drive, I'll look into making a default-ed install, then providing an image on my server and writing a customization script.
