Folks,

Now that dladm supports WiFi and NWAM Phase 0 has integrated, it seems
time to complete the plan[1] originally outlined in PSARC/2006/623 and
proceed with the removal of wificonfig. Given that wificonfig and dladm
are already starting to diverge (e.g., dladm supports WPA, but wificonfig
does not), I'd like to proceed with this sooner rather than later.

So, what are the remaining technical obstacles to removing wificonfig from
Solaris? Offhand, the only one I'm aware of is layered software -- I
believe that netprof, inetmenu, and (Solaris) GNOME all use wificonfig
under the hood, and there may be others (anyone know?). Going through
these:

        * AFAIK, netprof development has ceased now that NWAM phase 0
has integrated. However, I see that it's included with BeleniX,
so we may have some additional coordination to do here.

        * It seems that inetmenu is still being maintained, and still uses
wificonfig internally. I've CC'd Mike Ramchand (who I believe
is the primary author) in the hopes that he can clue us in on
the future of inetmenu now that NWAM phase 0 has integrated.

        * I know the NWAM team has been in close contact with the GNOME
team and knows what their plans are for moving away from
wificonfig. Can someone from the NWAM team summarize the plan
          and current state of affairs?
