Phil, I know you can connect to your AP now after you change the configuration of it. What I want to do now is to add some extra info which you may be interested in.
From the dtrace output, it can be seen that the reason why the connect failed is 'status code 0x19' in association response frame, which has the meaning of "Association denied due to requesting station not supporting the Short Slot Time option" according to 802.11 spec. This is a known bug of the driver and it has been fixed and integrated into snv_65( or snv_66, I don't remember), so if you have a chance to upgrade your system from snv_64a to snv_67 or above, you should connect without the need changing AP parameters. Just a heads-up to you and have fun with the wireless.
