We'll probably need to know exactly what version of Solaris (Solaris 10
1/06, Solaris 10 11/06, OpenSolaris build#, ...) you are attempting to
install. There have been a lot of changes and it seems you are using an
older version with both the Sun X server and the Xorg server. Use as
new a version as you can since laptop support has been getting better
but older versions can sometime be made to work.

This sounds like the test during installation was using the Sun X server
and following installation, it is attempting to use the Xorg server.
You'll want to try to get it working with the Xorg server but if
necessary, it can be configured to use the Sun X server.

At the grub menu (are you using a grub based version of Solaris?), enter
an 'e' to edit the Solaris entry. Select the kernel line and enter an
'e' to edit it. Append a '-s' to indicate it should boot into single
user mode (no X). Now boot. From single user mode you, you may need to
run /usr/sbin/kdmconfig to determine which X server is configure and to
switch between the two. If you are using Xorg, look at
/var/log/Xorg.0.log for clues about the problem.

That is a separate problem. You'll probably have to post the output
from /usr/X11/bin/scanpci to get help with that.

You probably don't want to modify that with Solaris. Modifying what
services are started has changed a lot with the different versions of
Solaris (particularly between 9 and 10 but also with later versions of
10 and OpenSolaris).

The NVidia drivers are included in recent builds of OpenSolaris and they
can be easily added to Solaris 10 once you boot into single-user mode.
I think you have to use the Xorg server with the NVidia drivers.

Probably because the test was run with the Sun X server but after
installation the system is trying to use the Xorg server. One version
of Solaris 10 did that.
