I've a Sony VGN-SZ4XWN/C laptop (around 6 months old) running Solaris Express Developer Edition 9/07 snv_70b X86.
The Gnome Battery Charge Monitor is easily confused, in at least two ways. I've no idea where it gets its data from, so I don't know if the OS is lying about the battery status or the GUI device is at fault. Ways in which it generates problems are: 1) If the machine is booted without a battery inside, then it detects the battery is not present, but does not update this information if the battery is then fitted in the laptop. Vista in comparison detects this OK. 2) If the battery is charging, then removed, the Battery Charge Monitor reports the laptop is on mains power. x% charged and will be fully charged in y minutes. i.e. it does not detect the battery has been removed.
