Did you find a solution for this?  I have a thinkpad t61 and I am having the 
same sound problem.  The long beep is there even if there's no sound driver 
installed.  Once the driver is installed, I can get sound from osstest, but the 
long beep overshadow the sound.   Everything works great except for sound and 
wireless with WPA.
