[laptop-discuss] notebook mic imput faulty

I picked up a refurbished dell latitude D400. It has windows 2000 pro 
installed. Everything seems to work fine except when I plug a headset in to use 
skype, I have sound, but no voice input is recognizes by skype.  Headset has 
two inputs. 1 for sound coming into headset, and 1 for microphone. How do I 
find out if mic input is faulty?
