I had a similar experience.  The following is copied from the comp.sys.laptops 
newsgroup.  The title of the message is "nx9420" and the date is Nov 2.

I'm going to answer my own question.  Maybe somebody else will benefit. 

My nx9420 arrived.  I ran the Solaris 10 Check Tool on it.  It couldn't see the 
disk.  (bummer) 

Then I went into the BIOS, and changed the settings for the SATA disk so that 
it would behave like a PATA disk.  Ran the Check Tool again. 
It said Solaris is likely to install on this system.  (yummo!) 

In the BIOS, you change "Act like a SATA disk" from enable to disable.
