To all,
I put this out there to start discussion as to the current state
of support for bleeding edge laptops. I hope that everyone will be able
to take a little bit of their time to chime in on this subject. Just a
little information from each person, but from many people will help
those sifting through this list looking for hardware recommendations.
This is sort of an informal compatibility list request. My question is:

What dual core laptops are being used currently; what are the
suggestions with regards to make, model and peripherals? If dual core
is not an option, what laptops are being used, and in 32bit or 64bit
mode?

Is it worth at this point in time to stick with 32-bit Core Duos
or move to 64-bit Turion X2s? Are there any major caveats regarding
periperal support for each different architecture? Does the wifi card
on the Core Duos work better than what is normally bundled with the
Turion X2s? Does either architecture have a better set of drivers for
power saving features? Is the general consensus that dual core laptops
are not worth the extra expense (this is purely subjective, based on
device support, usage habits, personal preference)? Are there specific
recommendations that could be made for someone looking to purchase new
and well supported laptops?
