hello all,
i've a Dell Precision M70 laptop, and os2009.06, b111
It works perfectly so far, but since some weeks, the fans are running
constantly after 1-2 hours, and the machine is hot, even if i'm using
only terminals.

Looking at powertop, it seems to me that the cpu is running only 20% of
the time, so i don't understand why the fans are running?

Is there a parameter i can adjust?

Is it possible to get the value of cpu's temperature?
smbios gives the values:
ID SIZE TYPE
6912 12 SMB_TYPE_COOLDEV (cooling device)

   Processor Status: 1 (enabled)
   Supported Voltages: 3.3V
   External Clock Speed: Unknown
   Maximum Speed: 1800MHz
   Current Speed: 1733MHz

the laptop has an nvidia chipset (NV41 [Quadro FX Go1400]), and i've
read on the web that it is possible to use Coolbits option in xorg.conf.
Is it normal that this option isn't presented when i use "nvidia
settings" menu?

thanks in advance for help,

gerard
