Having upgraded my EEE PC 701 (2G memory + 8G SD) I tried installing
OpenSolaris 2008.05.

Following blogs etc from others, it was remarkably pain free. Getting sound
and wifi working was easy with the help of google.

Now I want to update the install with newer packages etc. The update
process is a bit clunky, often apparently hanging, and seems to have the
same design fault as smpatch in that the default is to download all the
necessary files (OS and apps) before begining the upgrade.

The result is I run out of space half way through the update.

As I'm going to replace Gnome and a number of other heavy weight apps with
slimmer alternatives I occurs to me that deleting them before the update is
a good idea.

So, I was wondering if anybody has done something similar that I could copy
rather than hack away blindly? I've tried googling, but if there are any
guides to creating a slimline OpenSolaris install out there, I can't find
them.

Thanks,
