Dell just announce a new laptop family.
Most of them have eSata and DisplayPort.
I hope I can connect a JBOD array to the eSata Port (like the Buffalo
DriveStation Quattro TurboUSB).
This case includes 4 Disks as RAID 0/1/5 or JBOD. With ZFS I hope to get the
best performance out of
this box (using JBOD Mode). Another idea was to use a port multiplier. However
the driver situation
with OpenSolaris seems not so good.
With Linux/Windows I will get better driver support, but ZFS should work good.

The new Dell laptops are basically image compatible.
However in the E-Series you can choose difference
video devices:
Intel? Graphics Media Accelerator 4500MHD
or
NVIDIA? Quadro? NVS 160M2 256MB DDR3

The M2400 has:
NVIDIA? Quadro? FX 380M Graphics with 256MB dedicated memory

The M440 has:
NVIDIA? Quadro? FX 770M Graphics with 512MB dedicated memory

I find the Expose (Mac like) features of compiz very nice. For this I need 3D.
What graphic card has the best support in the upcoming Opensolaris 11.2008?

Support for Ethernet is essential. WiFi, Webcam, Mix and Bluetooth can wait.

I guess somewhere at Sun has already received a engineering example. In a recent
blog there was mentioned that Dell is a partner for OpenSolaris.
