I also had to do the rip and replace as I could not get reliable
performance with ndis.

There are a couple of hacks around to resolve this type of issue on
some laptops.  I had to modify the bios on my thinkpad to change the
mini-pci card, and on my current ASUS laptop I have to gently hack the
mini-pci card to keep it switched on.
