Are you reading the disc directly (from /dev/dsk/c...s2) or just the 
files on a mounted disc? If you are reading files, it is expected to 
perform badly.

The hsfs (ISO 9660 filesystem) driver is currently very inefficient; 
Moinak has made several improvements that will be integrated in 
snv_76 - see http://bugs.opensolaris.org/view_bug.do?bug_id=6588256
