For some odd reason, the device driver utility would not upload my information
to the repository, but I had to mention to *someone* that I installed
OpenSolaris 2009.06 onto my Toshiba NB205 netbook. I used an external USB
DVD-RW for the installation. The only bit of hardware that was not supported
out of the box (so to speak) was the Atheros 9285 WiFi radio. I downloaded and
installed the SUNWarn package (0.2), so that was an easy fix. I still haven't
convinced nwamd to connect to my local WPA2 network at home (I did use dladm to
set the WPA2 password and such), but it's not a huge problem, and I'm sure I'll
get it squared away at some point.
Otherwise, everything seems to work fine - compiz works just fine with a
modicum of effects (just enough to not look so bland ;) ) and FF 3.5.2 and OO
3.1 start and run surprisingly well and of course bluefish works quite well
(within the constraints of the small screen). I do have 2GB of RAM installed
(system monitor reports 1.1 of 2GB in use) and i'm using an older, slower SATA
I hard disk I had laying around, but that's it. Once I get the documents and
dev directories off of my original 160GB, I'll re-install over that. I'm quite,
quite pleased with the ease of installation and the level of support provided
out of the box for this little monster.
