Hi Aaron:

The problem is that it is desirable to have the beep emitted at the
character-cell-based keyboard and language screens of the live CD for
all machines and all environments (e.g., VirtualBox) when an
accessibility option is chosen from the GRUB screen. So, editing
/kernel/drv/audiohd.conf in these cases is impossible. :-(

I did experiment with editing /kernel/drv/audiohd.conf on an installed
Toshiba R500, though. If I set audiohd_beep=0, I don't hear anything
audible with:

printf "\\a"

But, I can manage to get it to sound like a very quiet sick kitten
purring on life support with the following:

while true; do printf "\\a"; done

Note that the above only seems to work when the X server is running. If
I 'svcadm disable gdm' and stay in character-cell mode, I cannot coax a
beep out of the machine. :-(
