Hi Lin (this is the same information, just the forum rejected to post from mail).
I did some test and will try to tell the results. I've tried in 2 places, my home , and at work. At home: I did the test Sunday 27. It goes like this. With automatic network management. Unpluged from cable network. With "Automatic network interface Selection". The wifi net uses WEP. My router is a Lynksys WRT54G. If I set the machine close to the router (about 1 meter) the connection is set and stay steady (Good!). But it happens after some guessing wheter to use the plugged net (rge driver) or the wifi net (arn). It takes the machine about half a minute to decide that it should use the wireless net. The strength reported varies between 93% and 100%. If the distance is larger (about 8 meters, with a thin wall in between) the system does the guessing for something between half a minute and a minute and the connects the wireless net (Good, ... almost). After about 4 minutes it looses connection to the wifi net and tries again with the cable net. Being unplugged it goes back to wifi after about a minute and connects again. This loop continued about 4 tiimes with the connection lasting about 4 minuts and the disconnection about 1 minute. On those ocasions I tried no to change any setting nor I changed the position of the machine (nor the router). After about the 4th flip-flop with the adapters the system could not connect again, until I moved the machine close to the router again. At the moment of connection the system usually reported a strength of around 65%, and while connected it went up to 95%. So strictly it did work, but is not very useful if the machine have to stay at cable distance. With WinXP sitting in the same place the connection is steady. At work: Did the tests on Monday 28 I was unable to connect. The system reported a message like "Disconnected because a different AP is used". I asked the net administrator and we seen that the network was configured on "shared" mode instead of "open" (the other options were WPA-Personal, WPA-Enterprise, and some other that I don't remember now). So I guess this time the problem probably is that the protocol is not supported (at least I did't found were to set that mode on the guis of OSol). regards - Pablo -- This message posted from opensolaris.org
