Hi Ubuntu laptop gang,

4 versions of Ubuntu (dapper->gutsy) have come and gone and my laptop
has the same power management problems. Both suspend and hibernate are
buggy. I am hoping someone on this list might be able to shed some
light on the problem or point me to a way that I can figure out what
is going on. I am reluctant to file actual bug reports since the
problems are not consistently reproducible, but I *really* want
suspend/hibernate to work reliably.

My laptop is: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/LaptopTestingTeam/CompaqPresarioV2600CTO

Specifically, there are 2 problems:
1- after waking up from suspend or hibernate, the keyboard & mouse don't work.
2- after waking up from suspend or hibernate, the screen is all messed
up. (but the keyboard does work)

With either of these problems, a reboot is required. For #1, I just
have to hold down the power button. For #2, I can ctrl-alt-delete to
do a "nice" shutdown.

There's no apparent pattern for when this will happen. Sometimes it is
after 1 suspend/hibernate, but usually it is after 3 or 4. Suspend
otherwise works perfectly. Hibernate is a little weird, since it
causes the speakers to pop loudly about half way through the process
and prints a bunch of text on the screen (in text mode) about usb
devices suspending and resuming.

Can anyone point me to any docs that will help me to sort these issues out?

Thanks,
Randall.
