Two-Year Faculty Fellow Opportunity at Duke Law School
"Open Genomics"
Duke University was recently awarded a 5-year, $4.8 million grant, funded by the National Human Genome Research Institute and Department of Energy, to establish the Duke Center for the Study of Public Genomics. As part of this grant, faculty affiliated with Duke Law School's Center for the Study of the Public Domain will be conducting a five-year Open Drug Research project. This major research project will analyze "open source"-type models of production in biopharmaceutical research and development. We are seeking a Faculty Fellow to assist in the Open Drug Research project. The Duke Faculty Fellow will work closely with law school faculty to conduct empirical investigations and normative analyses. The results of this research will include joint authorship of one or more major scholarly articles, to be published in legal and/or scientific journals, as well as shorter reports and studies. The Faculty Fellow will also have the opportunity to teach a law school seminar on innovation, intellectual property, and genomics. Additionally, the Faculty Fellow will help organize, and present a paper at, one or more conferences that focus on innovation, intellectual property, and health care.
The ideal candidate for this position would have a law degree; a strong background in intellectual property (particularly patent law and policy); an interest in economics and science policy; and familiarity with either software development or biopharmaceutical research.
The starting date for the fellowship is negotiable. Salary at the Fellowship level.
To apply, please email your curriculum vitae, a statement explaining your interest in the fellowship, and the names of three references to Professor Arti Rai at [EMAIL PROTECTED] The deadline for application is October 8, 2004.
