In the last decade, many European companies, research centres and public authorities have acknowledged the importance of Intellectual Property Rights (IPRs) as a key tool for improving competitiveness. Indeed, the European ambition for the future of our continent mostly focuses on the creation of a knowledge-based economy and society, and in such an economy wealth is created by transforming knowledge into value, i.e. mostly into Intellectual Property Rights (IPRs). In this context, the European Union has developed a political, legislative and operational strategy. The purposes of the Seminar are to share knowledge on how this strategy is already being launched and implemented, to evaluate its positive impacts, its strength and its pitfalls, and to reflect on possible ways to reinforce competitiveness of European companies, research centres, and overall economy by leveraging intellectual property. The morning session of this one-day Seminar is dedicated to EU orientations and policies whereas the afternoon session focuses on implementation programmes, issues and solutions.
