With BD-J and the hd scripting it will be wholly different. It is conceivable to write some reasonably sophisticated games as well as other apps for these things. > But isn't there some question as to who is going to > come out on top in the next generation DVD format wars? Certainly, and only time will tell. I suspect in this case that BD will win, but there are arguments for both (and neither). This isn't the place for that discussion. > Is this runtime specific to just blu-ray, or does it > apply to the other contender as well? A definite yes, BUT, given its J2ME nature, it is reasonable to say that going that direction first will yield a _ton_ of devices upon which the OL runtimes will be able to produce useful output. I suspect that a large minority of the phones on the market worldwide are java capable. Read the article, they have numbers in the billions of units. Then top that with what could be an entertainment leader (Blu-Ray) in a few years. It seems to me to be a no brainer. Even still, the hd-dvd runtime might also be a reasonable next target. My 2 cents. Later, Matt _______________________________________________ Laszlo-dev mailing list [email protected] http://www.openlaszlo.org/mailman/listinfo/laszlo-dev
