Believe it or not, I think you can say:

  <div style="display: table-cell">

to get all the kludgesXXXXXXXfeatures of a table cell's layout in a plain div. Why would you want to do this? Because the equivalent HTML tag may have other default CSS properties associated with it that you do not want on your div (like borders or margins, etc.)
