We looked at both. Our decision to go with OpenLaszlo had to do with pricing, open source, and the fact that OpenLaszlo is moving towards supporting other modes of delivery than flash (e.g. DHTML). When/if SVG is supported by Firefox, IE, and Safari this could be very powerful. As it stands they are doing some really cool things with DHTML. Look at LzPix for an example.
Also Flex seemed to be geared more towards integrating into an enterprise solution. I am never sure what that means but that seemed to be where the documentation and examples were going. OpenLaszlo seemed to be geared more towards Web 2.0. Again I can't really define web 2.0. I think the difference between enterprise application server and web 2.0 server are more philosophical and don't limit what you can really do with the product. Still it does mean for what we want to do the examples and supporting documentation are easier to use. Flex has benefits stemming from the fact that it is being written by the same company that makes flash. This seems like it should to allow for better integration between the two products. However when you need to you can dig through the source in OpenLaszlo and see what it is doing with the underlying flash API. Then if you really need to you can call through to the flash API from withing your OpenLaszlo source. Daniel.
