Indeed Mark is right: in the current documentation, this information
about lzt & lzr and the Developer's Console is rather scattered.
In 4.0 I've created a new chapter, "Understanding Compilation" which
explains different ways to invoke the compiler -- using URLs, the
Developer's Console, and lzc on the command line -- and explaining
which wrapper comes with what. I'm also reworking the chapter about
the the Development Process to better explain what the Developer's
Console offers (and how to make it go away when you don't want to see
it).
This is a topic where compiling/developing kind of overlaps with
deploying, so I may need to duplicate some information in the
Deployer's Guide as well.
As Tucker says, I always welcome feedback on improving the
documentation.
Thanks,
jrs

Googling for "openlaszlo deploying your application" got me here:

Section 6.3 is relevant, you want to set the default request type.
As it comes out of the box, the request type defaults to 'console'
to make it easy for developers.
The 'doc guy' reads these lists and would be happy to have feedback.

Thanks P,
I'm trying to get through the documentation but, to be honest,
it's kinda scattered in several places. Indeed, googling 'laszlo
lzt' doesn't yield any direct answers from the documentation.

add ?lzt=html to your url
Right way: read the documentation about deploying your application
