Hello,

I just tought about a TOTRIAGE status for bug repports.
It would works like that :

- When you repport a bug, it would be defaulted to "TOTRIAGE" status.
- If the initial reporter has more than $TRESHOLD of karma, he would
be able to set the status to anything else immediatly. So, not really
a waste of time for him.

Why ?

Bug triagers would be allowed to only display "TOTRIAGE" bugs. They
don't even have to confirm them anymore. They can quickly see if the
bug would be useful for a developper, have enough information and is
reported against the good pakage. It would also be easy for bug
triagers to quickly see were the work must be done. ATM, half the
unconfirmed bugs are well discussed by developpers and doesn't need
triaging at all. They are just discussing if it is a bug or not,
etc...

We currently have seven statuses and that will soon become eight. Adding a ninth for something that can already be expressed in Malone ("Unconfirmed" is a synonym for "Needs Triage", edge cases notwithstanding) would, IMHO, be feeping creaturism, and cause more confusion than relief.

If you can rally support for your idea though, and collect data to demonstrate that lots of other users and developers find this to be an issue and write that up in a spec, it could be worth coming back to this in the future.

Cheers,
