Welcome to the latest Launchpad release! Highlights include:
* New mentoring framework. * Launchpad 1.0 now out of beta. * More frequent code branch mirroring. These notes cover three Launchpad releases, made on 23, 27 and 30 April 2007. New: mentoring framework -------------------- We've designed Launchpad to make it easier to develop effective communities around free software projects. Welcoming and training new participants is essential to any community's future. Launchpad's new mentoring framework gives you the tools to: * Offer to mentor people who want to fix a bug or implement a blueprint. * Provide a list of items that are relevant to your project and for which mentorship is available. * Provide a list of items that would be a good starting point for someone who wants to join one of your teams. * See what mentorship offers individuals are currently making. Mentorship requires no admin as it's entirely based on commitments made by individual team members. It's also available even if you use a bug tracker other than Launchpad. We're really pleased with the reaction to 1.0, in particular the bug reports! If you want to continue to help us develop Launchpad, join the Launchpad Beta Testers team at: https://launchpad.net/~launchpad-beta-testers/+members Other new features and fixes ----------------------------- We've made small but important improvements to each of Launchpad's applications that will affect you whether you're a translator for OpenWengo, an Ubuntu package maintainer, a Zope bug triager or any other Launchpad user. Here are highlights from the improvements we've made. For full details, see the release notes below. If you visit a Launchpad beta URL, but are not a member of the Launchpad Beta Testers team, Launchpad will give you a link to the equivalent page on the main site. Code Hosting: Launchpad now mirrors Bazaar branches every six hours, rather than once a day. Bug Tracker: You can now mark bugs as duplicates using the email interface and add bug tags using Apport. We've also made the bug search more effective by searching in bug comments, as well as the main bug report. Translations: Many translators will be happy to know that Launchpad now handles upstream imports much more elegantly. It no longer overwrites the "needs review" flag when re-importing upstream translations and also now correctly updates the Launchpad version of a translation when importing an identical upstream translation. Answer Tracker: You can quickly see any questions that have been asked in languages for which your project doesn't have any support contacts. We've also changed the "I Solved My Problem" button to read "I Solves the Problem on My Own" to clarify its purpose. Release marker 4134, 23 April 2007 ---------------------------------- * We have fixed a number of bugs that affected the help panel: * Bug 81674 (Long words from the help panel are shown even when it's closed). * Bug 82214 (Help sidebar is broken in Internet Explorer). * Bug 82572 (Footer overlays help text when help panel is expanded). * Bug 87094 (links in help panel are hard to use). * The help panel now has a fixed height, with an arrow to indicate its state. This works in Firefox 2.0, IE6, Konqueror 3.5.6, and Opera 8.54 but does not yet work in Safari. You can try these changes for yourself by visiting https://code.launchpad.net/ and clicking on the help panel. * In Opera (9.10 for Ubuntu, and Opera 8.54 for Mac OS X), UI tabs are now correctly displayed. * Previously, Launchpad overwrote the "needs review" flag on some strings when making a new import from upstream. This prevented complete translations in some Ubuntu Feisty packages but has now been fixed. (Bug 102382) * When a new upstream translation is imported into Launchpad and the Launchpad version is the same as previous upstream version, we are now correctly changing the Launchpad version so we do not diverge from upstream. (Bug 102449) * Translator email addresses are now hidden from Google and other users without a Launchpad account. (Bug 91089) * Previously, adding a team that only has deactivated members to another team caused an error. We have now fixed this. (Bug 94164) * We have updated the Launchpad Tour (https://launchpad.net/+tour) and About pages (https://launchpad.net/+about) * We have fixed a number of issues with Launchpad's distribution mirroring. (Bugs 46662, 68395 and 107473.) * We now allow the Ubuntu distro team to copy packages from PROPOSED->UPDATES and/or SECURITY->UPDATES without needing a new upload or a rebuild). (Bug 52707) Release marker 4167, 27 April 2007 ---------------------------------- * A UI regression removed the option to mark a bug as private. This is now resolved. (Bug 78036) * You can now use the email interface to mark bugs as duplicates. (Bug 5190) * When a product changes its status to "Uses Malone officially" Launchpad no longer OOPSes when displaying the project's bugs. (Bug 70952) * We have rewritten the email sent by Launchpad Translations, such as the import failure warning. (Bug 88826) * When you open a support request, the requester's username is now shown by default. (Bug 89100) * In the Answer Tracker, the link to change preferred languages on the question edit page now works correctly. (Bug 109435) * Upload instructions for import branches were removed. (Bug 92133, partial fix) * You can now list all support requests that have been made in a language for which there are no registered support contacts. (Bug 75487). Example: https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+unsupported * We now display the question number and target project in the header of Answer Tracker pages, instead of repeating the question title. This is consistent with the rest of Launchpad. Example: We display "Question #123 in Launchpad Answers" instead of "How do I do this?". (Bug 109663) * If you try to visit the Launchpad beta but are not part of the Launchpad Beta Testers team, Launchpad will give you a link to the equivalent page on the main Launchpad site. * You can now add tags to bug reports in Apport. (Bug 92456) * Launchpad now includes bug comments in searches. (Bug 70665) * The header on the Team Membership pages now displays the team name. * Support requests can now be re-targeted to other products. (Bug 34050) * Several Translations pages now have help text. * It is now possible to reassign ownership of translation groups. (Bug 49751) * The Answer Tracker's email interface now uses the "answers" sub-domain instead of "support" and identifies questions with "question" not "ticket". Example: question<ID>@answers.launchpad.net rather than "ticket<ID>@support.launchpad.net". (Bug 109390) * Launchpad will now warn you if you try to reject a question that has already been rejected. (Bug 109966) * Launchpad now appropriately hides the legend when no translations are listed. Regression fix. (Bug 2718) * The header on the Translations pages now display the name of the product or distribution instead of the name of the template. (Bug #83304) * Launchpad no longer sets focus on the Subject field in the bug comment form. This makes scrolling easier and ensures the bug description is visible. (Bug 107376) * The Answer Tracker's "I Solved my Problem" button now reads "I Solve the Problem on My Own". There is also a brief note at the bottom of the form to explain the button. This should resolve ambiguity over the button's function but we are looking for further user feedback before we close the bug completely. (Bug 107810) * Code branch mirroring is now done once every 6 hours instead of once a day. * In the Launchpad Translations tour, the "How do I start using Launchpad for my project?" link now links to the correct page. (Bug 110185) Release marker 4182, 30 April 2007 ---------------------------------- * You can now view all of a project's open bugs by clicking the new "Show all open bugs" link on the project's bug overivew page. Example: e.g. https://bugs.launchpad.net/upstart/ (Bug 94458). * All references to "products" in Launchpad have been replaced with "project". A project group is an overarching initiative that includes several related projects. Example: the Mozilla Project produces Firefox, Thunderbird and Gecko. (Bug 5276) * Erroneous text has been removed from the GPG validation email. (Bug 110628)) * We have removed most user-visible references to "Malone" and "Rosetta" from Launchpad. These tools are now called the Bug Tracker and Translations. (Bug 110586) * A new feature, mentoring, has been deployed. You can start to use mentoring from the Actions Menu for most bugs and blueprints. * Translations now use a single label 'Translated and reviewed by' where appropriate in the translation form instead of two separate fields with the same contents. * When reporting a bug on a distribution and then changing the distribution to a project on the bug submission page, Launchpad now exhibits the correct behavior. (Bug 103364) * The UI Actions Menu and Portlets are no longer missing in IE7 (Bug 90545) * Notifications boxes correctly display the top margin. (Bug 109660) * Notification messages are no longer cropped on the front page.
