Launchpad doesn't have a concept of fuzzy string, so whenever you change a letter or a typo, the new string will be a completely new string for LP. The only thing you can do (and that I know) of is working offline in this case. Fix the typos, update the po files downloaded from LP (that will come without fuzzy strings) with the new pot file, and do a mass un-fuzzy on the po files. After that, you have to upload them. Hope this can be helpful.
