Hi Gerjo, Adding to tmh's response, please make sure that when you are switching the operating systems, you are not removing the block diagrams from the VIs. The code will have to be recompiled when you change operating systems hence you will need the block diagrams.
VIs and executables may work on XP embedded, but you'll have to try it to find out. I know that some customers have tried this and have been successful. National Instruments does not officially support this since VIs and Execs have not been tested on embedded systems. I hope this helps. Feroz National Instruments
