G'day Everybody,

Hi All,

How is everyone this fine Tasmania, sunny Autumn day? That's you nice
Americans call 'Fall' ;-)

Anyway, it was not my intention to discuss the weather, apart from to
tell you that it's a beautiful, sunny day here in West Hobart.

---

I've been, as you'd probably gather from my previous post (?) ---
trying with some success, to refine the way my computer looks, and the
user / admin works.

I've been use Linux Mandriva 2010 's GNOME Applications > Accessories
> gtk-chtheme ... the gtk theme application.

This is quite new to me. Sorry, if any non-Linux users are reading
this and don't like it.

Anyway, I have the following user accounts on this system:

1) root - an admin user with an admin password

2) peter - a peterericwilliams user with user password. This is the
user who I used to install the Mandriva OS on this computer.

3) a guest user - not sure about password.

I can log in as root and choose different themes, customize them &
save them as new themes. In fact I have created 3 new themes as the
root user.

Also I can do the same thing, but logging in a peter & saving my
customized themes as the peter user. My peter user has 3 themes saved
(different names and theme details to the admin user's themes).

So far, so good. ;) But the thing that I don't understand is how I can
get my 3 saved custom admin's themes and 3 different saved custom
peter's themes and make all 6 themes available to all users. ;-(((

I've tried copying the theme files, copy the .theme hidden files,
changing the permission changing the owner, changing the access
rights....!!! Nothing seems to make all 6 themes from the admin &
peter user visible to either one. ;((( !!!

At the moment the admin sees his 3 themes, and peter sees his 3
themes... and I don't know how to change that. ;-)))

Can someone who knows how this is *supposed* to be done, in a Linux
system using GNOME please tell me what utility programs are available
to fix this. I'm really getting sick of trying to tweak
owner/permission rights/privileges -- and I don't really know what I'm
doing. ;-!!!(

I must admit that although I've been using Linux (of different types)
for several years ... this is owning recently that I've not until now,
known enough to set up and properly used different user and root users
AND had it working correctly.

{ Not to mention that my health is largely improving, with the thanks
of GOOD doctor's & very good modern prescription medications!  }

Well! My computer is almost ...almost okay! #SMILE# At least I am
*trying* to correctly configure my system.

Hey, Lazarus developers & users... I figure that it would be pretty
irresponsible of me to start trying to test and/or use Lazarus/FPC
patches, without at least having my system as close a possible to
correctly configured with the correct user right/privileges etc.

In other words, I want to do the right thing (both to myself and to
others show may share my code/patch-suggestions) and get my system
okay-dokey. ;-)))

Suggestions, anyone ?!?!? ;)

Luv PEW
X
